After receiving a BA in English and Writing from SUNY Potsdam, I worked in marketing. My first job involved interviewing authors to create promotional radio ads. In other words, I got paid to talk with writers about writing. I met people like Leon Uris, Scott Adams*, Mary Higgins Clark and Gregory Maguire. Later, I was Online Marketing Manager at Condé Nast Publications.
I took a fiction workshop at The New School in New York City, loved it, and resolved to write every day. But like many who work full time, that resolution often succumbed to "just resting my eyes" syndrome. I decided to return to school full time.
May 2007 I received my MFA in Creative Writing**, Fiction, from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. I have completed*** three novels for middle grade/young adult readers as well as several articles for both children and adults.
*Scott Adams: While recording the interview with Dilbert creator Scott Adams, my microphone had to be turned off during his responses. We needed clean sound bites for the radio ads, and I couldn't stop laughing.

***Completed: I was tempted to use quotation marks with this word. While there comes a point when a project must be set aside for a while, I'm not sure it is ever completed. There is always something to tinker with.
